imgresThe great meal is nearly upon us.

But before the great meal comes the great night out. With friends and family in town, the Wednesday before Thanksgiving is one of the biggest days out every year.

This fact has not slipped by the sleuths at police stations across the state.

Cleveland has announced that it will have a checkpoint Wednesday night at Clark Avenue and West 30th Street. It will take place from 11 pm to 2 am.

Canton announced that it will have two checkpoints tonight. One in the 4500 block of Route 62 and the other in the 2900 block of State Route 172 in Canton Township.

Medina Township will also have one. It will be at State Route 18, East of Riverstyx road. It runs from 9:30 pm to 2 am tonight.

We also know that Montgomery County will have one Wednesday. It will be in Harrison Township from 7 pm to 11 pm. The exact location will be announced tomorrow.

We’ve also been told about a cornucopia of saturation points. Nearly every Northeast Ohio city or town will be participating in a DUI crackdown, so call your cab or designate your driver before the fireballs, car bombs and those fancy new shots with Great Lakes Christmas Ale and Jameson.

The following cities have shared that they are hosting saturation points:

Bedford
Berea
Broadview Heights
Brooklyn Heights
Brookpark
Cleveland
East Cleveland
Euclid
Garfield Heights
Lakewood
Maple Heights
Middleburg
Olmsted Falls
Orange
Parma
Parma Heights
Royalton
Solon
South Euclid
Strongsville
Warrensville Heights

It looks like we have one last weekend without checkpoints before the full swing of the checkpoint season begins. We called all of our usual places this week (see the list below) and heard no across the board for checkpoints this Friday and Saturday.

Reminder, there are already future ones scheduled across the area. As we previously reported, Akron/Summit County will have one April 29th, Elyria is scheduled to have one April 30 and Euclid has one on May 27. All of those dates were given to us as tentative.

Stay safe and enjoy the slightly warmer, less rainy weather this weekend. Let us know if we can offer you any legal help.

Good day to you, Northeast Ohio. The Ohio OVI Blog is back with another list of checkpoints for the weekend of April 8-10.

Before we get down to business: Have you read our post about the SCRAMx alcohol monitoring? We had a test subject wear an ankle monitoring bracelet for the Indians home opener to see what the bracelet would say. The result was pretty interesting.

OK, back to the usual stuff. We found out about one confirmed checkpoint this week. Here are the details: Maple Heights will have one Friday from 8-12 pm at Henry and Libby, by the Great Western Juice.

During our research this week we also found out about a number of future checkpoints. Here’s the details on those.

Akron/Summit County does not have one this week, but has one tentatively scheduled for April 29th. We’ll update you when we know more.

Elyria does not have one this week, but has one scheduled for April 30 from 10pm to 2am. More details on that when we get them.

Euclid does not have one this week but has one tentatively scheduled for May 27.

Below is the list of other areas we called this week who told us they do not have a checkpoint scheduled as of today. Have a great weekend.

Good Thursday to you, Northeast Ohio. We hope the suddenly chilly weather hasn’t cooled your spirit for the upcoming summer.

For whatever it’s worth, we’re hotter than ever here at the Ohio OVI Blog. We hit the streets on St. Patty’s Day to share our story, and we ended up with some coverage in this week’s Cleveland Scene.

But, as fun as it is to get some publicity, we’re here with a mission: to share information about OVI laws and checkpoints in Ohio. So let’s get down to it. We made our usual list of calls this week, and there’s only one checkpoint scheduled thus far.

Cleveland will have one on March 25 (Friday). The checkpoint will be at St. Clair Avenue and E. 105th Street between 11 pm and 3 am.

Cleveland will also be having a license checkpoint early next week. We’ll share those details once they’re available.

Beyond that, we’ve listed below the other areas we called who either told us they aren’t having a checkpoint or who didn’t have details for us. Here’s your weekly reminder: Whether you’re traveling somewhere with a checkpoint or not, don’t drink and drive. Trust us, you can’t afford it.

Here’s the list of areas we called:

Akron/Summit County – No, Summit County there is one tentatively scheduled for April 29th. We will keep you informed when we know more.

A couple of reminders for you this week: One, remember that this blog is not legal advice in anyway. We’re distributing public information, but you should contact an attorney if you need legal advice. Check out our About the blog page for more on that. Two, we have been getting a few emails with questions about our goal here at the Ohio OVI Blog. This is a reminder that we never encourage drinking and driving. Quite the opposite. We try to underscore the fact that police have tactics to catch drunk drivers and dealing with an OVI charge is not easy. Please, if you’re going to drink, don’t drive. Period.

We doubt that you have any interest in hitting the streets this snowy weekend, but we take our Ohio OVI Blog very seriously, so we figured we’d do our checkpoint list anyway.

Not suprisingly, there aren’t any planned in the areas we called. Per usual, we checked throughout Northeast Ohio.

As always, no checkpoints doesn’t mean driving drunk is an option. The roads will be slippery and the cops will still be on the lookout. If you do go out and drink, designate a driver.

Have a great weekend. If you do stay in, feel free to spend some time on our Cuyahoga County DUI site. Or, if you have a personal injury, workers’ comp or DUI case, give us a call.

Happy New Year, Northeast Ohio. We hope you’re over 2010 and ready to take on 2011 with a full head of steam.

We’re feeling refreshed after a week off at the Ohio OVI Blog and we’re back in action. We called our usual police stations for a checkpoint list this week and heard some interesting things. First, it appears there aren’t that many checkpoints. The only one we know of will be in Cleveland, but we haven’t heard where it will be as of this posting. Second, that doesn’t mean cops are giving up on catching drunk drivers. In fact, there’s a big focus on saturation points this weekend, which means nothing is set but there will be lots of cops looking for OVI/DUI in busy areas. Areas like downtown Cleveland, downtown Akron, etc. will be filled with cops trying to protect everyone’s safety.

So while the below report doesn’t show much action, please remember to drive safely this weekend. If you’re going to pound the champagne, designate a driver.

And, as always, if you need legal help defending yourself in an OVI/DUI case, give us a ring.

That’s all. Here’s the places we checked and what we’ve heard back thus far:

Akron/Summit County – Unable to get confirmation one way or another thus far.
Beachwood – NO
Bedford – NO
Berea – NO
Brecksville – NO
Brooklyn – NO

Kent – NO

Happy turkey time Northeast Ohio. The team over at Taubman Law is about to take a long weekend to enjoy the season, but we wanted to get our weekly list of checkpoints out before everyone begins their holiday travels.

Because so many people travel this time of year there are checkpoints and saturation points all over the area the next four days. So, while you might be tired of hearing us say it, we’ll say it again: If you’re going to be drinking, designate a driver. Take our word for it; you don’t want to deal with a DUI or OVI during the holiday season (check out our Cuyahoga County DUI site sometime to see what a pain the punishment for DUI/OVI is).

Anyway, we already know about checkpoints in Elyria, Euclid and Portage County this weekend. The details of those, along with the list of other areas we checked, are below. If we hear anything else we’ll keep you updated.

In the meantime, we’d like to use this time of thanks to say how much we appreciate our readers. We’re over 700 ‘likes’ on Facebook and have had several posts go over 500 views on our blog. We hope this blog helps keep our community safe. We’re big fans of Northeast Ohio here at Taubman Law, and we’re always happy to help you defend your rights. Feel free to give us a call or shoot us an email if you ever need anything.

In the meantime, enjoy the stuffing and eat the last piece of pie while nobody is looking.

We all know that Thanksgiving is one of the top times of the year for DUI and OVI check points, but it looks like the weekend leading up to it will have plenty of cops out and about.

While the details are still coming in, this weekend we already know there will be a sobriety checkpoint in Cleveland on Saturday (this in addition to a driver’s license checkpoint tonight). The checkpoint will be at W. 28th and Broadview Road from 8 p.m. to 12 a.m.

You know what we’re going to say next: Even in areas where there aren’t checkpoints you should ALWAYS designate a driver if you’re going to drink. Otherwise, you’ll end up with an OVI or DUI. The punishment for either can be severe (as outlined in our Cuyahoga County DUI pages). We handle DUI and OVI cases at Taubman Law and, even though we’re quite good at it, we don’t want you to need our services.

That’s all for today. We’ll post updates as we get them. Below is a list of all the cities we called and if they are having a checkpoint or not.

Akron/Summit County – NO, but they will most likely have one during Thanksgiving week.

Elyria – NO, but will have one scheduled during Thanksgiving weekend, we will update as soon we know more.

Happy Friday Ohio OVI Blog readers. It’s after 1 as of this posting, so hopefully you found a way to ditch work and enjoy this 60-degree November day. If we weren’t so dedicated to our clients over here at Taubman Law, we would be on the golf course right now.

Alas, duty calls. Below you will find a list of all the places we called this week to ask about check points. Overall it looks like a pretty quiet weekend on the check point front. We will, of course, let you know if we hear about anything tomorrow. In the meantime, don’t take this as an opportunity to be foolish. Cops throughout Northeast Ohio are still looking for drunk drivers.

Also, keep in mind that Thanksgiving weekend is coming up and that is one of the busiest travel times of the year. There will be cops all over, so figure out your holiday plans now. Either designate a driver or just stay at Grandma Joyce’s house. Whatever you decide, be safe.

Have a great weekend. Don’t forget that we here at the Ohio OVI Blog work at Taubman Law, a boutique firm that fights for our clients. Should you get into any trouble with OVI/DUI, need an attorney for personal injury or workers’ comp, or want to offer us free tickets to watch the Browns this weekend, give us a call or email.

Here at The Ohio OVI Blog’s world headquarters we are still celebrating the fact that we passed 500 Facebook likes this week. Our new goal is 1,000, so if you don’t like us on Facebook yet you should do so now. There’s a little Like button at the top of this article. Click it. Or you can check out our actual Facebook page.

Enough gloating, let’s talk about check points. Most of the areas we checked do not have a check point this weekend, but there was a press release from The Ohio State Highway Patrol earlier this week saying they will be out this weekend. They will likely send us an update tomorrow, and we will update the blog when we hear more.

Here are the areas we checked. We will post updates if we hear anything further. As always, we want everyone in Northeast Ohio to drive safe. If for some reason you run into trouble with the law because of drinking and driving, we can help.

Akron/Summit County – No, might have one on Halloween weekend, however. We will keep you updated.
