Good day to you, Northeast Ohio. The Ohio OVI Blog is back with another list of checkpoints for the weekend of April 8-10.

Before we get down to business: Have you read our post about the SCRAMx alcohol monitoring? We had a test subject wear an ankle monitoring bracelet for the Indians home opener to see what the bracelet would say. The result was pretty interesting.

OK, back to the usual stuff. We found out about one confirmed checkpoint this week. Here are the details: Maple Heights will have one Friday from 8-12 pm at Henry and Libby, by the Great Western Juice.

During our research this week we also found out about a number of future checkpoints. Here’s the details on those.

Akron/Summit County does not have one this week, but has one tentatively scheduled for April 29th. We’ll update you when we know more.

Happy turkey time Northeast Ohio. The team over at Taubman Law is about to take a long weekend to enjoy the season, but we wanted to get our weekly list of checkpoints out before everyone begins their holiday travels.

Because so many people travel this time of year there are checkpoints and saturation points all over the area the next four days. So, while you might be tired of hearing us say it, we’ll say it again: If you’re going to be drinking, designate a driver. Take our word for it; you don’t want to deal with a DUI or OVI during the holiday season (check out our Cuyahoga County DUI site sometime to see what a pain the punishment for DUI/OVI is).

Anyway, we already know about checkpoints in Elyria, Euclid and Portage County this weekend. The details of those, along with the list of other areas we checked, are below. If we hear anything else we’ll keep you updated.

In the meantime, we’d like to use this time of thanks to say how much we appreciate our readers. We’re over 700 ‘likes’ on Facebook and have had several posts go over 500 views on our blog. We hope this blog helps keep our community safe. We’re big fans of Northeast Ohio here at Taubman Law, and we’re always happy to help you defend your rights. Feel free to give us a call or shoot us an email if you ever need anything.

In the meantime, enjoy the stuffing and eat the last piece of pie while nobody is looking.

Happy Friday Ohio OVI Blog readers. It’s after 1 as of this posting, so hopefully you found a way to ditch work and enjoy this 60-degree November day. If we weren’t so dedicated to our clients over here at Taubman Law, we would be on the golf course right now.

Alas, duty calls. Below you will find a list of all the places we called this week to ask about check points. Overall it looks like a pretty quiet weekend on the check point front. We will, of course, let you know if we hear about anything tomorrow. In the meantime, don’t take this as an opportunity to be foolish. Cops throughout Northeast Ohio are still looking for drunk drivers.

Also, keep in mind that Thanksgiving weekend is coming up and that is one of the busiest travel times of the year. There will be cops all over, so figure out your holiday plans now. Either designate a driver or just stay at Grandma Joyce’s house. Whatever you decide, be safe.

Have a great weekend. Don’t forget that we here at the Ohio OVI Blog work at Taubman Law, a boutique firm that fights for our clients. Should you get into any trouble with OVI/DUI, need an attorney for personal injury or workers’ comp, or want to offer us free tickets to watch the Browns this weekend, give us a call or email.

Halloween is upon us and there is plenty of candy to eat and spiked apple cider to drink. But, as always, we here at the Ohio OVI blog have to interject a buzzkill: Drinking and driving is dangerous.

If you’re going to go out and hit up costume parties this weekend (we recommend wearing a Cavs shirt with a fake knife in the back), know that the police are on the lookout for drunk drivers. In fact, there are four check points we know about this weekend. Here are the details we have on them. As always, we will update these when we find out more.

Akron/Summit County – They will have one Saturday evening in the City of Stow, around the Stow High School. This is right around the corner from Kent State, so if you’re going to go down there for the Halloween festivities, designate a driver.
Cleveland – The city will be having one, but the exact location will not be posted on Friday. In addition, the City of Cleveland will have a license check stop sometime next week. We will update as we know more.
Lakewood / Ohio Highway Patrol – There was a release from The Ohio Highway Patrol saying they will be doing check points. We will update you as soon as know the location, it will most likely be Friday.
Warren – They will be having one, but the date and exact time was unavailable on Thursday. We will update you on Friday.

Here are the other areas we called that told us they are not having a check point this weekend.

OVI and DUI in Ohio is no joke. We really don’t want you to drink and drive. If for some reason you don’t want to listen to us, we also help people with OVI/DUI cases at Taubman Law (that’s right, we do more than blog!). Give us a call or an email and we’ll make sure you have proper representation.

OK, we had to take some time away from the Ohio OVI Blog lately because a few guys from our office were asked to try out at quarterback for the Cleveland Browns. Not sure what will come of that, but it looks like one of us will get the start against the Steelers this Sunday.

Nonetheless, we’re back with our weekly check point list.

It looks as though there aren’t too many check points out there this weekend – although we did not receive news one way or another from The Ohio Highway Patrol, which handles check points in Lakewood – but there may be some coming up in Elyria and Akron/Summit County. We’ll keep you posted.

As always, our best advice is to not drive drunk. It’s a simple way to keep everyone safe. If you do make a mistake and find yourself dealing with an OVI/DUI case, we handle that at Taubman Law, so go ahead and contact us. Or you can visit our Cuyahoga County DUI site for more information about that part of our practice.

Anyway, here’s the list of places we checked today. Have a great weekend. Go Browns.

Apparently the end of summer arrived the day after Labor Day this year, as the chill has arrived in Northeast Ohio. But if you’re planning to use your weekend to warm up your belly with libations, be on the lookout.

As of now we already know that Akron/Summit County police will have a check point Saturday night in Twinsburg Township at 10 p.m.

From what we understand, the following areas either will not be having a check point this weekend or haven’t publicly shared a decision yet. As always, drive safe and sober. The Ohio State Highway Patrol’s summer crack down on DUI and OVI may have ended, but local police are still looking for people driving under the influence. You don’t want to have to call us on Monday to take your case.

Avon
Beachwood
Bedford
Berea
Cleveland
Cleveland Heights
Cuyahoga County Sheriff’s Department – Most likely not running one, like always they will be out around downtown Cleveland for the weekend.
Elyria
Garfield Heights – Left a message, waiting to hear back

Mayfield Heights
Medina City
Mentor
North Olmsted

As always, the Ohio OVI Blog is put together by Brian Taubman of Taubman Law. Hopefully these posts deter you from making the poor decision of drinking and driving. If for some reason they don’t, you can contact Taubman Law to make sure your rights are protected.

Hooray for long weekends! Labor Day is upon us and an extra day of weekend will be greatly appreciated at the Taubman Law office. We hope you’ll be able to enjoy friends, family and relaxation this weekend.

But we don’t run this blog to discuss weekend plans. We know you’re here to see the check points in Northeast Ohio this weekend – and there are a lot of them. With everything going on in Cleveland – the Taste of Cleveland, the Air Show, Oktoberfest, etc. – the cops will be out in full force to make sure people are driving safe. Here’s some great advice from us: Designate a driver. That advice was free, so take it. Free advice from an attorney is a rare thing.

As always, if you need actual legal help, give us a call or email.

Anyway, here are the areas with check points that we know about as of today. As always, we’ll be updating this whenever we get more information. UPDATE: See Friday’s post with more details on four of these check points.

Berea – They did not have a check point planned, but they will be doing saturation patrols to keep an eye on Oktoberfest.

Bratenhal – They will be having one Saturday between Lakeshore Drive and East 140th. It will start at 9 p.m.

Cleveland – Will have a check point on the West side on Friday. Still waiting on details.

North Royalton – Will have a check point Friday night. Looking to confirm the details with them.

Parma and Parma Heights – They might be doing one Saturday. We were told to call back on Saturday for an answer.

Seven Hills – They will have one Friday night on Rockside Road starting at 8 p.m.

A few other areas of note:

The Cuyahoga County Sheriff didn’t have one planned, but will certainly have heavy forces out on West 6th for the holiday weekend. We left a message with the Akron/Summit County department but have zero information one way or the other.

The following areas will not be having a check point this weekend, to the best of our knowledge, or have not reported one to us as of this post.

Happy Thursday, Northeast Ohio. As always, I spent this afternoon hitting the phones and talking with local police to find out where the check points will be this weekend.

One more point of note: While these areas are generally out of my region, I also know that Jefferson, Clark, Geauga, Scioto and Wayne counties will be having a checkpoint on Friday. The exact location and time will not be known until Friday morning. I will update if I get additional informaiton.

The weather has cooled a little bit heading into this weekend in Northeastern Ohio, meaning we can all go outside without fear of melting.

But a nicer weekend won’t change the emphasis local police have put on stopping drinking and driving.

Here’s our weekly list of check points broken down by areas we know about for this weekend and areas that we know about for future weekends. We’re still waiting on confirmation on a few spots, so this will be updated as soon as the information is available. As always, if you have a city in Northeast Ohio you’re wondering about, please let us know.

Please, drive safely this weekend.

Northeast Ohio checkpoints for the weekend of August 20-22:

Findlay – I was informed they will be doing checks on any driver they suspect of driving under the influence. When asked of a specific location, the officer did not give one. Please be careful in Findley, don’t drink and drive.

Garfield Heights – A Friday check point will be on Broadway around I-480, an exact time was not given.

Lorain County – They will be running one on Friday night, exact location will be known Friday afternoon.

On the lookout:

Cleveland – The city of Cleveland has a checkpoint scheduled for the 28th of August at 54th and Dennison.

Parma: Could potentially have a check point on Labor Day. We’ll update you as we find out more.

Seville – We haven’t been able to get confirmation from them one way or another for this weekend, so we will update this blog as soon as we do.
