Good Thursday to you, Northeast Ohio. We hope the suddenly chilly weather hasn’t cooled your spirit for the upcoming summer.

For whatever it’s worth, we’re hotter than ever here at the Ohio OVI Blog. We hit the streets on St. Patty’s Day to share our story, and we ended up with some coverage in this week’s Cleveland Scene.

But, as fun as it is to get some publicity, we’re here with a mission: to share information about OVI laws and checkpoints in Ohio. So let’s get down to it. We made our usual list of calls this week, and there’s only one checkpoint scheduled thus far.

Cleveland will have one on March 25 (Friday). The checkpoint will be at St. Clair Avenue and E. 105th Street between 11 pm and 3 am.

Cleveland will also be having a license checkpoint early next week. We’ll share those details once they’re available.

Beyond that, we’ve listed below the other areas we called who either told us they aren’t having a checkpoint or who didn’t have details for us. Here’s your weekly reminder: Whether you’re traveling somewhere with a checkpoint or not, don’t drink and drive. Trust us, you can’t afford it.

Here’s the list of areas we called:

A couple of reminders for you this week: One, remember that this blog is not legal advice in anyway. We’re distributing public information, but you should contact an attorney if you need legal advice. Check out our About the blog page for more on that. Two, we have been getting a few emails with questions about our goal here at the Ohio OVI Blog. This is a reminder that we never encourage drinking and driving. Quite the opposite. We try to underscore the fact that police have tactics to catch drunk drivers and dealing with an OVI charge is not easy. Please, if you’re going to drink, don’t drive. Period.

Happy turkey time Northeast Ohio. The team over at Taubman Law is about to take a long weekend to enjoy the season, but we wanted to get our weekly list of checkpoints out before everyone begins their holiday travels.

Because so many people travel this time of year there are checkpoints and saturation points all over the area the next four days. So, while you might be tired of hearing us say it, we’ll say it again: If you’re going to be drinking, designate a driver. Take our word for it; you don’t want to deal with a DUI or OVI during the holiday season (check out our Cuyahoga County DUI site sometime to see what a pain the punishment for DUI/OVI is).

Anyway, we already know about checkpoints in Elyria, Euclid and Portage County this weekend. The details of those, along with the list of other areas we checked, are below. If we hear anything else we’ll keep you updated.

In the meantime, we’d like to use this time of thanks to say how much we appreciate our readers. We’re over 700 ‘likes’ on Facebook and have had several posts go over 500 views on our blog. We hope this blog helps keep our community safe. We’re big fans of Northeast Ohio here at Taubman Law, and we’re always happy to help you defend your rights. Feel free to give us a call or shoot us an email if you ever need anything.

In the meantime, enjoy the stuffing and eat the last piece of pie while nobody is looking.

Halloween is upon us and there is plenty of candy to eat and spiked apple cider to drink. But, as always, we here at the Ohio OVI blog have to interject a buzzkill: Drinking and driving is dangerous.

If you’re going to go out and hit up costume parties this weekend (we recommend wearing a Cavs shirt with a fake knife in the back), know that the police are on the lookout for drunk drivers. In fact, there are four check points we know about this weekend. Here are the details we have on them. As always, we will update these when we find out more.

Akron/Summit County – They will have one Saturday evening in the City of Stow, around the Stow High School. This is right around the corner from Kent State, so if you’re going to go down there for the Halloween festivities, designate a driver.
Cleveland – The city will be having one, but the exact location will not be posted on Friday. In addition, the City of Cleveland will have a license check stop sometime next week. We will update as we know more.
Lakewood / Ohio Highway Patrol – There was a release from The Ohio Highway Patrol saying they will be doing check points. We will update you as soon as know the location, it will most likely be Friday.
Warren – They will be having one, but the date and exact time was unavailable on Thursday. We will update you on Friday.

Here are the other areas we called that told us they are not having a check point this weekend.

OVI and DUI in Ohio is no joke. We really don’t want you to drink and drive. If for some reason you don’t want to listen to us, we also help people with OVI/DUI cases at Taubman Law (that’s right, we do more than blog!). Give us a call or an email and we’ll make sure you have proper representation.

This is the second update of my check points list for this weekend, as it’s pretty obvious the Ohio State Highway Patrol is taking serious its summer campaign ‘Over the Limit. Under Arrest.’

There will be five more check points tonight, including one in Portage County. The one in Portage County will take place from 9 pm. to 3 a.m. on State Route 43, near milepost 21.

Drive safe this weekend. Here’s the information on check points for tonight, copied from the Ohio State Highway Patrol’s press release.

Wood County
The Ohio State Highway Patrol, in conjunction with the Wood County Sheriff’s Office and the Haskins Police Department, announced today that an OVI checkpoint will be held from 6 p.m. to 11 p.m. tonight on State Route 64, just north of State Route 582, in the village of Haskins in Wood County.

Portage County
The Ohio State Highway Patrol, in conjunction with the Portage County Sheriff’s Office, the Streetsboro Police Department, the Aurora Police Department and the Brimfield Township Police Department, announced today that an OVI checkpoint will be held from 9 p.m. to 3 a.m. tonight on State Route 43, near milepost 21, at the Aurora/Streetsboro corporation limit in Portage County.

Crawford County
The Ohio State Highway Patrol, in conjunction with the Crawford County Sheriff’s Office and the Bucyrus Police Department, announced today that an OVI checkpoint will be held from 7 p.m. to 11 p.m. tonight on Marion Road, just south of Beal Road, in the city of Bucyrus in Crawford County.

Hamilton County
The Ohio State Highway Patrol, in conjunction with the Cincinnati Police Department and the Hamilton County OVI Task Force, announced today that an OVI checkpoint will be held from 8 p.m. to 10 p.m. tonight on Riverside Drive near St. Andrews Street in the city of Cincinnati in Hamilton County. A second checkpoint will be held from 11 p.m. to 1 a.m. tonight on Delta Avenue, just north of US 52 in the city of Cincinnati in Hamilton County.
