trafficstopbkg_webONLY_72dpiAs we’ve grown here at the Ohio OVI blog we’ve become a popular place for people to learn about checkpoints across the state. Our goal has always been to keep people safe by promoting designated drivers.

In doing this, we have been asked many, many questions about the legality of checkpoints and what happens when you’re pulled over at a checkpoint. So, we want to answer your questions once and for all.

We do not claim to be experts at the Ohio OVI Blog. (Unless you’re talking about Cleveland Browns draft strategy. That’s something we could have done better than any GM over the last 14 years). But we do know how to find answers. When it comes to questions about DUIs, OVIs, checkpoints and the like, we ask our friends at Taubman Law.

So here’s the story: If you post your DUI, checkpoint and other questions in the comments on our blog, we will do our best to get answers for you. Depending on the feedback, we may do a post with answers to all the questions or we may do each question as a single post. Please post the questions in the comments section and not on our Facebook page as we hate filling up people’s newsfeeds (that’s what baby pictures and complaints about ex friends/spouses are for). If you include your full name in the comment, we will use it in the blog post. If you don’t, we won’t.

One important issue of note: We will get the clearest answers we can from Taubman Law, but they are not here to give legal advice. If you are looking for legal advice or representation, they can offer consultation but that is something outside the office of this blog.

So, ready, set, post. You want answers, so send us your questions. Go.

Hello Ohio,

It was a sad night in Cincy yesterday, but the town is abuzz all over Cleveland today. The Browns are somehow in first place (based on a sad afternoon for Cincy…) and the Indians are in the playoffs.

Playoffs?! Playoffs.

It’s a fun time to be in northeast Ohio, but with great times come great responsibilities. Although there are no checkpoints announced for tonight or for the Browns’ Thursday night game tomorrow, there will be saturation points throughout both nights to target fans who’ve had a bit too much. Our advice, as ever, is designate a driver.

As for the upcoming weekend, we haven’t heard about any checkpoints. We do know that Euclid has announced one for next week. They have not yet released the exact time or location.

That’s all we have for now. We’ll update the blog as we hear more. As always, please share this blog and our Facebook page with your friends.

Thanks to Taubman Law for the information about the Euclid checkpoint. They’re the best in the business; check ‘em out.

Well, we’d love to dive right into checkpoints across the state of Ohio, but the only two we know about so far are in Cleveland.

Cleveland: Can you talk right now? Are your minds still completely blown by this TRich trade? Let us know when you have a moment. When you do, here’s what we know so far for this weekend.

Parma has a DUI checkpoint that is scheduled for today (Thursday) from 6 pm to 1 am at State and Tuxedo.

The city of Cleveland has just sent us a notice that it will have an OVI checkpoint Friday night in the Fifth District. This is in addition to the license checkpoint we told you about earlier in the week. The OVI checkpoint will be held at Superior Avenue from Parkwood to E. 108 west bound. It will take place from 9 pm – 2 am.

Garfield Heights is going to have a checkpoint Saturday at Broadway and Forestdale. They did not release a time, but expect it to be somewhere in the 7 pm to 2 am range.

As always, our sources are pulled together by the fine folks at Taubman Law. They know their stuff. Call ‘em with your legal issues and you’ll get a top notch attorney.

Football season is upon us once again, which means that people throughout Ohio are out giving their tailgate efforts 100 percent.

But while we would never stop a good party at the Ohio OVI Blog, we do want you to be safe. So do Fox 8, Ace Taxi and The Ohio OVI Task Force.

To help promote designated drivers in Cleveland, they are hosting the 2013 Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over Cornhole Tournament on the Rizzo Show. Six teams will be randomly selected to compete for a chance to win an ultimate tailgate grand prize. Trust us, you want this prize.

Check out the site for details on how to enter and take the pledge today:

Hello Ohio. After a few weekends with dozens of checkpoints, this weekend looks to be a little slower.

As of now we have not received word of any checkpoints for this coming weekend. That said, we believe there will be increased patrols around Cleveland, Columbus and Cincinnati now that football season is in swing. We also know that there will be some checkpoints next weekend. Details on those will come next Thursday.

As of last weekend the state’s Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over campaign has ended, and we’re looking to get some overall drinking and driving stats for summer 2011 soon. We’ll be doing a post on that to highlight the dangers of drinking and driving and show the overall improvement of the state in several categories.

As always, should you run into any trouble with OVI in Ohio, we know how to help you. In Northeast Ohio you can contact Taubman Law. In Central Ohio you can contact Hastie Legal Offices LLC.

Life is good in Northeast Ohio.

High temperatures will be in the 60s this weekend, the Indians are rolling and the Browns just got a bunch of extra draft picks.

But the warmer weather also means that there will be more drinking and driving. And that means checkpoints. While we wish everyone would designate a driver before they went out on the town, that’s not always the case.

As such, the police have a few checkpoints scheduled for this weekend.

First, Akron previously told us they had one scheduled for Friday, but we don’t have all the details. We will try to contact them again Friday morning.

We also received information that the city of Cleveland will have one on Friday night. The time and location has not yet been released.

Elyria is set to have at Lake Avenue and West on Saturday from 10p-2a.

We called our usual list this week and didn’t find any other checkpoints. If we hear anything else, we will keep you informed.

As always, if you need the help of an OVI/DUI attorney, please contact us.

Well, the greenest holiday of the year is officially upon us and the fun has already begun. All over Northeast Ohio green beer is being poured and silly t-shirts are being worn.

Before you go out and join the fun, however, we wanted to take some time to share with you information about several checkpoints and potential checkpoints throughout the area on St. Patrick’s Day.

First and foremost, almost every single police station we talked to told us there would be saturation points Thursday, meaning that their force will be out in extra numbers.

Beyond that, three communities are having checkpoints that we know about.

Cleveland will have on downtown between 5 and 9 pm. This checkpoint will be located on Huron between West 3rd and West 6th Streets.

North Royalton will have one on Route 82 around 5 to 9 pm.

And, finally, Olmsted Falls will have one on Columbia Road starting around 3 and ending at roughly 7 pm.

In addition to that, we have not heard back from Akron/Summit County on whether they will have one. We will try to find out more and keep you updated.

Below you will find a list of other areas we called that, thus far, have said they are not having a checkpoint for the holiday. Remember, it doesn’t matter if there’s a checkpoint or not, the police will be on the lookout for intoxicated drivers and you should plan accordingly. Here at the Ohio OVI Blog we don’t care if you designate a driver, take a cab, catch a bus or get a hotel room; we just want you to make a safe decision. Happy St. Patrick’s Day from the Ohio OVI Blog and Taubman Law!

Happy Sunday to you Northeast Ohio. We here at Taubman Law hope your holiday weekend has treated you well.

We enjoyed the time off, the turkey and the light snow, but now it’s back to work. If you or anyone you know was arrested for OVI or DUI this weekend, we can help. We know there were checkpoints all over the area, so if you got stuck in a jam we can help you protect your rights. We don’t advocate drinking and driving in any way, but we do know how to make sure people get treated fairly in the legal system. Whether it’s a super DUI or a regular OVI, we know how to help. Give us a call or shoot us an email.

That’s all. Go Browns.

Happy Friday Ohio OVI Blog readers. It’s after 1 as of this posting, so hopefully you found a way to ditch work and enjoy this 60-degree November day. If we weren’t so dedicated to our clients over here at Taubman Law, we would be on the golf course right now.

Alas, duty calls. Below you will find a list of all the places we called this week to ask about check points. Overall it looks like a pretty quiet weekend on the check point front. We will, of course, let you know if we hear about anything tomorrow. In the meantime, don’t take this as an opportunity to be foolish. Cops throughout Northeast Ohio are still looking for drunk drivers.

Also, keep in mind that Thanksgiving weekend is coming up and that is one of the busiest travel times of the year. There will be cops all over, so figure out your holiday plans now. Either designate a driver or just stay at Grandma Joyce’s house. Whatever you decide, be safe.

Have a great weekend. Don’t forget that we here at the Ohio OVI Blog work at Taubman Law, a boutique firm that fights for our clients. Should you get into any trouble with OVI/DUI, need an attorney for personal injury or workers’ comp, or want to offer us free tickets to watch the Browns this weekend, give us a call or email.

Halloween is upon us and there is plenty of candy to eat and spiked apple cider to drink. But, as always, we here at the Ohio OVI blog have to interject a buzzkill: Drinking and driving is dangerous.

If you’re going to go out and hit up costume parties this weekend (we recommend wearing a Cavs shirt with a fake knife in the back), know that the police are on the lookout for drunk drivers. In fact, there are four check points we know about this weekend. Here are the details we have on them. As always, we will update these when we find out more.

Akron/Summit County – They will have one Saturday evening in the City of Stow, around the Stow High School. This is right around the corner from Kent State, so if you’re going to go down there for the Halloween festivities, designate a driver.
Cleveland – The city will be having one, but the exact location will not be posted on Friday. In addition, the City of Cleveland will have a license check stop sometime next week. We will update as we know more.
Lakewood / Ohio Highway Patrol – There was a release from The Ohio Highway Patrol saying they will be doing check points. We will update you as soon as know the location, it will most likely be Friday.
Warren – They will be having one, but the date and exact time was unavailable on Thursday. We will update you on Friday.

Here are the other areas we called that told us they are not having a check point this weekend.

OVI and DUI in Ohio is no joke. We really don’t want you to drink and drive. If for some reason you don’t want to listen to us, we also help people with OVI/DUI cases at Taubman Law (that’s right, we do more than blog!). Give us a call or an email and we’ll make sure you have proper representation.
