All right, it’s time to get green, Ohio.

As you may have heard, St. Patrick’s Day is this weekend. The fact that it’s a holiday that celebrates green beer means that it also attracts cops. What’s more, this time around it’s on a Saturday. So the checkpoints this weekend are aplenty, as the kids say.

Let’s get down to business. First, Friday night.

We haven’t heard about much for Friday, but Columbus will have one on Olentangy River Road, just east of Grandview Heights. It will take place in the area just south of W. 3rd Avenue and run from 9 pm to 3 am.

We’ve also found out that Lima will have one Friday on State Route 309 in Allen County. It will run from 9 pm to 12 am. (To clarify for those sad people – like the author of this post – who watch “Glee,” this is in Lima, not the rough streets of Lima Heights.)

All the other information we have is for Saturday, March 17.

Cleveland will have one on Huron and W. 6th St. They did not give us a time, but it will be after the parade, most likely in the early evening.

Columbus will have one on Saturday in southwestern Columbus. We don’t have any other details yet.

Franklin County will have a checkpoint in the southwestern area of the county on Stringtown Road, west of Gantz Road in Grove City. It will run from 9 pm to 3 am.

Medina County did not report a checkpoint, but they are planning increased saturation patrols in Wadsworth.

North Royalton has one scheduled from 7 pm to 11 pm. It will be on Route 82.

Olmsted Falls has one scheduled for Bagley Road. It will run from 7 pm to 11 pm.

Springfield has announced that it will work with the Ohio State Highway Patrol to conduct a checkpoint Saturday night. They have also announced increased patrol units for Friday and Saturday night.

Summit County will have one in Akron on Portage Trail. We didn’t get an exact time, but expect it will run from 7 pm to 11 pm.

UPDATED: Portage County/Ravenna reported that The Ohio State Highway Patrol will run a checkpoint on State Route 43 tonight from 10 pm to 3 am.

That’s all we have for now. We’ll keep updating this post and others over the weekend.

Happy Thursday to you, Ohio.

As you may or may not know, one of the Ohio OVI Blog’s favorite holidays is right around the corner: St. Patrick’s Day. The 2012 version of this very green holiday comes with a special surprise: It’s on a Saturday. Sounds like good times to us.

Of course, with great times comes great responsibility. As such, the checkpoints for the holiday are already rolling in. We very rarely hear about upcoming checkpoints almost a full month in advance, but the state is really trying to ensure everyone’s safety this year. As such, we already know about checkpoints in the following areas for St. Patty’s Day weekend:

Akron
Cleveland
Cuyahoga County Sheriff’s Department
North Royalton
Olmsted Falls

As always, the best way to handle these checkpoints is by driving safe and sober. We don’t have any of the details on locations or times yet, but we’ll be doing several follow up posts as we hear more.

In the meantime, get your green shirts and Irish puns ready.

Good Thursday evening to you, Ohio.

We have details on two checkpoints on Friday. The first one is in Akron on Friday night. The checkpoint will be on West Market Street from 10 pm to 2 am.

The second check point, from information from our friends at Hastie Law, will be in Columbus on W. Broad ST. just west of I-70 interchange. 9pm-3am.

As of now, these are the only posts we’ve received word on in the Northeast and central Ohio area. We will obviously circle back if we hear anything else.

Until then, enjoy the lovely weather.

Good afternoon Northeast Ohio. It’s time once again for us to talk about road safety this summer. Later today we’ll be posting some information about a checkpoint in Akron last weekend. For now, let’s say this: the police caught a lot of intoxicated drivers.

So we’ll remind you once again, please keep our streets safe by designating a driver when you drink. We all want to make it home safely. We practice the law in the state of Ohio and realize that these checkpoints are serious business. Besides the safety risks of driving drunk, there is a very real risk of losing your license. It’s just not worth the risk.

OK, we’re off our soapbox. Let’s get down to business. We know of two checkpoints so far this weekend. Both will be tomorrow night. One is in Akron and the other is in Parma.

Akron – There will be a checkpoint on South Arlington Road between 10 pm and 2 am tomorrow night.

Parma – The exact location won’t be known until tomorrow, but the checkpoint will be between 10 pm and 2 am somewhere on either Ridge or State Road. We’ll update this when we get the full information.

Additionally, we have been told that there will be a checkpoint in North Royalton on June 24. We’ll have details about that next week.

Stay safe, NEO. Should you need some legal help in an OVI/DUI case, we are here to help you. We want to make sure the law on OVI keeps people safe, but we also want to be sure it is enforced fairly.

Spring has truly sprung in Northeast Ohio. After weeks of rain, rain, rain and rain, the sunshine is upon us and the weather is made for grilling and golf.

Unfortunately, the warmer weather means there will be drinking and driving. As such, the checkpoints throughout the area are turned up a notch this week.

Here’s what we know so far. There will for sure be three checkpoints tonight: Euclid, South Euclid and East Cleveland.

East Cleveland – There will be one from 9 pm through 2 am today, although we don’t have details on a location.

Euclid – There will be a checkpoint on Marginal between 200-222nd street from 10 pm to 2 am.

South Euclid – Police here will have one on Green Road near Monticello or Mayfield by Belvor from 10:30 pm t0 2:30 am.

In the coming weeks we already know of more scheduled checkpoints. While Summit County has none that we heard of this week, there will be on June 10 in Coventry Township and one on June 17 in Akron. We’ll share the details when we know more.
We have also heard about one in North Royalton on June 24.

One last note for you this week: There was a checkpoint in Lakewood yesterday evening that we failed to post until after it started because of a miscommunication with our sources. We try to avoid that, but admit that despite our good looks and popular Facebook page we are not perfect. We will work to avoid mistakes like this whenever possible.

Have a great weekend. Remember to drive safely and to designate a driver if you’re going to drink.

Life is good in Northeast Ohio.

High temperatures will be in the 60s this weekend, the Indians are rolling and the Browns just got a bunch of extra draft picks.

But the warmer weather also means that there will be more drinking and driving. And that means checkpoints. While we wish everyone would designate a driver before they went out on the town, that’s not always the case.

As such, the police have a few checkpoints scheduled for this weekend.

First, Akron previously told us they had one scheduled for Friday, but we don’t have all the details. We will try to contact them again Friday morning.

We also received information that the city of Cleveland will have one on Friday night. The time and location has not yet been released.

Elyria is set to have at Lake Avenue and West on Saturday from 10p-2a.

We called our usual list this week and didn’t find any other checkpoints. If we hear anything else, we will keep you informed.

As always, if you need the help of an OVI/DUI attorney, please contact us.

It looks like we have one last weekend without checkpoints before the full swing of the checkpoint season begins. We called all of our usual places this week (see the list below) and heard no across the board for checkpoints this Friday and Saturday.

Reminder, there are already future ones scheduled across the area. As we previously reported, Akron/Summit County will have one April 29th, Elyria is scheduled to have one April 30 and Euclid has one on May 27. All of those dates were given to us as tentative.

Stay safe and enjoy the slightly warmer, less rainy weather this weekend. Let us know if we can offer you any legal help.

Happy Thursday to you, Northeast Ohio. Thanks for taking time out of your day to check out our checkpoint list for the weekend of April 15-17.

Let’s get right down to business. It looks like a quiet time for checkpoints, as we didn’t hear about any scheduled for this Friday or Saturday. There are a few areas we haven’t heard back from yet, but below are the places we called that said no for this week.

As we mentioned last week, Euclid, Elyria and Akron/Summit County will be having them later this month and in May, so be sure to come back to the Ohio OVI Blog for details.

Have a great weekend. Remember, you can contact us if you need help with an OVI case in Ohio.

Good Thursday to you, Northeast Ohio. We hope the suddenly chilly weather hasn’t cooled your spirit for the upcoming summer.

For whatever it’s worth, we’re hotter than ever here at the Ohio OVI Blog. We hit the streets on St. Patty’s Day to share our story, and we ended up with some coverage in this week’s Cleveland Scene.

But, as fun as it is to get some publicity, we’re here with a mission: to share information about OVI laws and checkpoints in Ohio. So let’s get down to it. We made our usual list of calls this week, and there’s only one checkpoint scheduled thus far.

Cleveland will have one on March 25 (Friday). The checkpoint will be at St. Clair Avenue and E. 105th Street between 11 pm and 3 am.

Cleveland will also be having a license checkpoint early next week. We’ll share those details once they’re available.

Beyond that, we’ve listed below the other areas we called who either told us they aren’t having a checkpoint or who didn’t have details for us. Here’s your weekly reminder: Whether you’re traveling somewhere with a checkpoint or not, don’t drink and drive. Trust us, you can’t afford it.

Here’s the list of areas we called:

Akron/Summit County – No, Summit County there is one tentatively scheduled for April 29th. We will keep you informed when we know more.

A couple of reminders for you this week: One, remember that this blog is not legal advice in anyway. We’re distributing public information, but you should contact an attorney if you need legal advice. Check out our About the blog page for more on that. Two, we have been getting a few emails with questions about our goal here at the Ohio OVI Blog. This is a reminder that we never encourage drinking and driving. Quite the opposite. We try to underscore the fact that police have tactics to catch drunk drivers and dealing with an OVI charge is not easy. Please, if you’re going to drink, don’t drive. Period.
